3. Whit Merrifield

Whit Merrifield can play pretty much any position for the Kansas City Royals however 2nd base is his primary position. The former South Carolina Gamecock is very underrated and is not credited for his talents. While he is not the most powerful bat, he is good at tallying hits and is an exceptional base stealer. He did not have much competition for the three spot, but don't take away anything from Merrifield's talent.

2. Jose Altuve

I know, I know Altuve is a cheater. If he never took part in the notorious cheating scandal the Houston Astros got themselves tied into, he might be number one on this list. Once a mere contact hitter has turned into a slugger as Altuve now has 35 home run potential. He is not the greatest fielder, but he is a great baserunner and one of the best 2nd basemen in the league, despite his dishonest ways in 2017.

1. D.J. LeMahieu

After the controversy that taints Altuve's validity as a ballplayer, LeMahieu was the no-doubt choice for the best 2nd baseman. Similar to Merrifield, LeMahieu can play many positions on the diamond but is primarily a second baseman. He also has a gold glove, so he does provide great defense. LeMahieu does not have the speed of the two guys on this list yet is still a better fielder and is the best pure hitter of the bunch. He doesn't hit too many home runs, but constantly racks up singles and doubles and finishes the season with a great average.
