Top 3 Catchers in Baseball

The catcher might be the most important position in the game. They are the ones in charge of relaying signs to the pitcher and are basically the shot callers. While offensively, the catcher position is relatively weak, they are some studs that are able to play one of baseball's more exhausting positions on a daily basis while also contributing some pop in their bats.

3. Gary Sanchez

In terms of offense, New York Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez is the best in the league. The reason he comes in at number 3 is because of his defensive efforts. Even though he has shown improvements in every season, he is still a below-average catcher on defense. While he has great pop-time and a cannon, he lacks accuracy and is bad at blocking pitches. However, he is quite a stud with the bat. He has the potential to launch 40 home runs a season when healthy and is very feared in a stacked Yankees lineup.

2. Yasmani Grandal

Yasmani Grandal is not as feared a hitter as Gary Sanchez. However, that does not mean he is not a beast at the plate. He had a .248 average and hit 28 home runs as part of the Brewers last season. While Sanchez is a poor defender, Grandal is one of the better defenders in the league. He may not have the arm Sanchez does however, he is more consistent and gives up less careless errors than his Yankee counterpart.

1. J.T. Realmuto

J.T. Realmuto is the clear choice as the best catcher in the league. He is arguably better than Sanchez offensively and he is certainly better than Grandal defensively. Realmuto won't give the power numbers that Sanchez offers but he is more reliable at the plate and will hit for a solid average with around 25-30 homers. He also has glovework that is better than Grandals while having a cannon almost as good as Sanchez's. While the catcher position is relatively weak in the MLB, Realmuto has been a beast in all aspects of the game
