Rookie Profile: Casey Mize

The Detroit Tigers had an abysmal season in 2019 and are in desperate need of young talent to help change their fortunes. Lucky for them, they have the 2nd best pitching prospect in all of baseball in Casey Mize who can help bolster a starting rotation that already includes Michael Fulmer and Matthew Boyd. Last year in the minors, Casey Mize pitched 109.1 innings and held his ERA to 2.55.

Mize is currently the 7th best prospect in baseball and estimated to arrive in the MLB in 2020. He went undrafted out of high school, so he went on to play baseball at Auburn University. He would later become the 1st overall pick in the 2018 MLB draft. He has improved his stuff and control each year before he was drafted. Mize's three strongest pitches are his fastball, slider, and splitter. With the combination of nasty stuff along with impressive control, Mize can blossom into the leagues, top pitchers.

Mize certainly is not enough to completely turn around the Tigers, however, he can get them going in the right direction, they have the potential for a decent starting rotation with him Boyd and Fulmer and if they can get a few bats to help bolster their lineup, Detroit has the potential to improve and let someone else be the laughing stock of the league.
